I became involved with horses at a very young age. I received my first horse when I was four years old. Since then, I have continued to work with and own many different horses.
Over the past 15 years I have become increasingly more involved in the world of racing Thoroughbreds. I started working at a large farm while attending Cal Poly State University. At Cal Poly, I studied Ag Business with a concentration in Finance and Appraisal. While attending school, I worked as an equine veterinary technician under some of the best equine veterinarians on California’s central coast. I became fascinated with the Thoroughbred industry and focused some of my studies in school around Thoroughbreds. I took classes that dealt primarily with Thoroughbred racing, and I focused my senior project on Thoroughbred pinhooking. While working as a veterinary technician, I assisted with foaling, breeding, and herd health. I also assisted with sales prepping, training, galloping horses in preparation for the track, and I even worked some sales.
After graduating, I continued to work in the industry. My focus evolved to include the financial aspect of managing a Thoroughbred business. I have assisted in the management of several large Thoroughbred farms, and have personally maintained the accounting for one.
At Checkmate Thoroughbreds, we are committed to excellence in every aspect of the industry. We look forward to assisting you with your Thoroughbred ventures in any way we can.
